Birthday Batty Hero

This weekend has seen a day that has been completely focused on my son.  We have had Auskick (Aussie Rules Footy), a birthday party and finally a school disco.  We have seen this day coming for a couple of weeks and he has been getting more and more excited the closer the day got.  For him the most exciting part seemed to be his friends birthday party at the local ice arena.

When I started to plan for this I asked him what his friend would like as a gift, the answer…..anything superhero or Marvel.  Given the current trends that was an easy task to get a present that was suitable and within the budget.  I then asked if he wanted me to buy a card for him to give his friend and the response surprised me.  The answer was ‘NO!!!! You have to make it Mum!” This then posed the challenge, if he wanted Marvel characters I knew this was never going to happen within the styles of my work as I didn’t just want to print a picture and stick in on the front and with all the copyright issues that worried me.

So what did I do? I went straight to my two go to digital stamp companies and started scouring.  I found two images I thought he may like, Pirate LoveJoy from Saturated Canary and My Batty Hero from Tiddly Inks.  I showed him both images and gave him the choice.  It took him about 5 minutes to decide on My Batty Hero.  I really enjoyed colouring this image and I used a number of different Studio Calico papers and some stars from the July Card kit to top it off.  As it turns out the most difficult part was trying to fit a suitable “punch” word to fit in that part of the card.

Overall this card is one that I am really happy with, and even better my son loved it as well.

Kids Birthday’s

It seems to be birthday season in our world at the moment. Last month was my birthday, last week was my sons birthday, next week is my Dad’s birthday.  To top it off, there seems to be a lot of my kids friends having birthdays as well,

Today has seen a need to make a card for my daughters friends birthday tomorrow.  I was quiet happy to have some coloured images all ready to go, and having received a number of card and project life kits last week, meant that I had a fair bit of inspiration running though my head.  The end result is here.

4th Birtthday Card

I was really happy with the end result. There were a few things I would have like to have done better, but I have learned this is always this case with the things I make.

I ended up using a Deconstructing Jen sketch as some more inspiration, however as usual it never ends up looking anything like the sketch I started with 🙂

I will be posting some more colouring images tomorrow.

Copic Colouring and Digital Stamps

I have been playing a lot lately with Copic Markers and Digital stamps.  I have fallen in love with a number of stamp designers including Tiddly Inks, Saturated Canary and Some Odd Girl.  I could spend hours and hours colouring these images, my main issue is printing them.  I really like using thick cardstock nd our printer we recently purchased is not coping with this at all.  I struggle on and I hope to purchase a printer that can cope soon.

Here is one of my coloured images that I used for a card for a friend who was having a hard time at work.

I will post some more as I get better pictures.
