Super Fathers Day Card

This week has seen my confidence in my cards improve immensely. Last weekend a friend asked me to create 2 custom cards, one of which was for Fathers Day.  With a love of super heros in the house and a request for a Superman style image, the obvious choice was My Super Boy by Tiddly Inks.

I had a ball making this card. I have found the more and more I apply some of my colouring teaching of Alyce from Kit and Clowder, the more I love the results.

I have not really used many stencils despite the latest trends, so I had a ball using a stencil I received in a Simon Says Stamp card kit.  I have been looking for the perfect reason to try it out and this was it. I really like the way the snow chalk ink worked for the stars and dots on the backgrounds.

I also received my Studio Calico project life kit for August just at the right time. 2 Days before stating this I opened it and fell in love with the large card with the sunrays, it worked perfectly with a paper from the August Card Kit, and a label die cut.

I hope you like the card and I will share the other card later in the week.

The Love of a New Puppy

About a week ago I was asked to make a card for a friend at work. She has a friend who is getting a new puppy and is VERY excited. I understand this excitement well as we have recently added a puppy into our house and the excitement lasted for 3 months before we brought her home, 2 months later it has not worn off. This meant I knew how special I had to make this card.

I thought I already had the perfect image but put it out there to the Kit and Clowder community to see if they knew of any others.  I quickly found the image “Wendy” by Saturated Canary.  I fell in love and remember sitting just like this with our new puppy, this was the image I was looking for.

It took a while to colour as I really wanted to apply some of the things I had learnt from the Live Colouring Event, so over about 2 hours the coloured image came together.  When then putting the card together I wanted the image to really stand out so I went so to my basics, a clean and simple design, and used Deconstructing Jen Sketch 164.

Kit and Clowder Live Colour Event

On the weekend just gone, I took part in a live colour event hosted by Alyce from Kit and Clowder.  I you are considering any type of lesson for using Copic Markers I would highly recommend Kit and Clowder.  I was not really sure on whether to spend the $70 to par take in the full skin and hair course however after Sunday morning I am sold.

The event started off before the day with Alyce letting everyone know the image she would be colouring and the markers that you would be using.  Given how new I am to Copic markers I looked at the list and realised I was in trouble.  I then looked at the cost to buy all those markers and realised that would get me in even more trouble with my husband.  In the end I decided to go with a sale on at Eckersly’s at the moment which is buy 4 get 1 free on sketch markers and I got the missing skin colours and the blue’s for the dress.  I am so pleased I did as well.

The morning started by making my coffee, getting the computer setup and locking the craft room door. There were to be no distractions.

The next 2 hours disappeared and the picture below is the result.  I was so pleased with the results.  As per my normal self criticism there are a few things I am not happy with that I would like to improve, but given the complexity of the image and how daunted I was to start with I am really happy.

Birthday Batty Hero

This weekend has seen a day that has been completely focused on my son.  We have had Auskick (Aussie Rules Footy), a birthday party and finally a school disco.  We have seen this day coming for a couple of weeks and he has been getting more and more excited the closer the day got.  For him the most exciting part seemed to be his friends birthday party at the local ice arena.

When I started to plan for this I asked him what his friend would like as a gift, the answer…..anything superhero or Marvel.  Given the current trends that was an easy task to get a present that was suitable and within the budget.  I then asked if he wanted me to buy a card for him to give his friend and the response surprised me.  The answer was ‘NO!!!! You have to make it Mum!” This then posed the challenge, if he wanted Marvel characters I knew this was never going to happen within the styles of my work as I didn’t just want to print a picture and stick in on the front and with all the copyright issues that worried me.

So what did I do? I went straight to my two go to digital stamp companies and started scouring.  I found two images I thought he may like, Pirate LoveJoy from Saturated Canary and My Batty Hero from Tiddly Inks.  I showed him both images and gave him the choice.  It took him about 5 minutes to decide on My Batty Hero.  I really enjoyed colouring this image and I used a number of different Studio Calico papers and some stars from the July Card kit to top it off.  As it turns out the most difficult part was trying to fit a suitable “punch” word to fit in that part of the card.

Overall this card is one that I am really happy with, and even better my son loved it as well.

Unusual Colouring Dramas

I have been doing a lot of colouring with Copic Markers recently to practice my techniques (and truth be told play with all my different colours).  I thought I would make a card tonight with two of the coloured images I had done during the past week only to find my daughter had fallen in love with one of them and accidently dropped it on the floor, where our puppy decided it tasted good.  Whilst the irony of the images being Puppy Love from Saturated Canary was not lost on me, I was not overly impressed. I decided instead to take a couple of photos of the remaining half of Puppy Love and also Canary Love also from Saturated Canary.  I hope you like them and would love to hear your thoughts.
